Duties and Experience

Bindiya Patel is the Patent Paralegal and Patent Docketing Administrator for Sherman IP. She is currently involved in a vast array of organizational tasks. Some of her main duties include providing support to the Patent Prosecution team, managing progression of internal and statutory deadlines for our patent docket, completing electronic filing submission to the US Patent and Trademark Office and maintaining active communication and status updates with our clients.

Education

Bindiya received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology, Law and Society with minor in Psychology and Social Behavior from the University of California, Irvine in 2013. In addition, Bindiya graduated from a Paralegal Certificate Program through the University of California, Irvine Extension with excellent academic credentials. Following her completion of the program, Bindiya took a deeper dive into a course in Trademark, Patents, and Copyright Law as an effort to obtain a more in-depth understanding of intellectual property law.

Other Professional Experience

After her undergraduate studies, Bindiya acquired a range of experiences in various areas of law. From criminal law, both prosecution and defense, to personal injury law and immigration law, each area provided her with a broad overview of just how expansive the field of law can be.

In 2013, Bindiya attained a summer internship with the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) in Washington D.C. As a Public Affairs and Communication Intern, she was fortunate to become exposed to the various issue that exist amongst the defense side of criminal law.

Upon completion of the internship, Bindiya worked as a legal secretary and lien negotiator for a personal injury law firm specialized in motor vehicle accidents, product liability, and premise liability. She was able to understand the rights entitled to medical providers in third party liability cases.

Bindiya has a passion for searching for good food, meeting great people, and enjoying new and unusual destinations. She recently tied the knot with her college beau and has relocated to Chicago, Illinois where she especially enjoys scavenging new and innovative restaurants/food trucks around the city of Chicago. When she is not out exploring the restaurant scene, she is usually in the kitchen turning classic recipes into fusion dishes using ingredient most commonly used in Indian cuisines. Some recipes she has experimented with include Chicken Tikka Pizza, Tandoori Shrimp Sushi, and Masala Fish Tacos. Aside from being a food connoisseur, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family. She loves to travel around the country to explore each city’s cultural scene and unique style of cuisine.
