New York, February 28, 2024: Sherman IP LLP, an Intellectual Property law firm (“Sherman IP”; and Zeichner Ellman & Krause LLP, a New York based full-service business law firm (“ZEK”; are excited to announce that they have entered into a formal affiliation agreement, effective immediately.

Pursuant to this affiliation, Sherman IP and ZEK will be able to offer the services of each other’s practice groups to their clients and jointly market to new clients while still maintaining their own characteristics, separate operations, and direct client relationships. Each firm will be able to offer unified administrative functions to streamline clients’ law firm experiences across both law firms while allowing clients to engage additional professionals and resources, and to pursue further types of legal matters. Each of Sherman IP’s and ZEK’s clients and teams will continue engagements in existing legal matters and goals as they have always done while also having access to newer and more expansive legal services, attorneys, and resources.

Kenneth L. Sherman, Founder/Managing Partner of Sherman IP stated, “We’re thrilled about this affiliation. We’ve worked with other firms in the past to help clients at times, but this affiliation brings ZEK’s services directly to Sherman IP’s clients and allows our team to provide our specialized patent and trademark services directly to ZEK’s clients in a seamless approach. In addition to our specialized skills, Sherman IP clients will now have ZEK’s panoply of business legal services readily available to them and vice versa. Our practices complement each other. I’m very excited about the increased depth supplementing our skills as well as the horizontal addition of new practices and resources. We have been working with ZEK’s attorneys throughout our 31-year history. ZEK’s attorneys are the attorneys that I go to for my own legal matters. Now we’re able to provide those same ZEK resources to our clients, seamlessly.”

Sherman IP is a pre-eminent Intellectual Property law firm with advanced experience in high technology patent prosecution; sophisticated, high-volume trademark prosecution; patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret litigation; and transactions including licensing, joint ventures and mergers and acquisitions. Sherman IP has provided its services to clients ranging from the world’s largest public corporations to mid-sized companies to individual entrepreneurs and to everyone in between.

Stuart Krause, ZEK’s Managing Partner, stated, “Our clients have already expressed a desire to have us help them with their patent and trademark matters. Financial institutions, one of our core client groups, are among the top intellectual property filing industries. Now we can offer those sophisticated services at a more economical basis than they could do in-house.”

Sherman IP initially provided its services to a select cadre of sophisticated clients pursuing, protecting, and using their Intellectual Property for their business purposes. Sherman IP’s proprietary systems coordinated patent prosecution across technology groups so that clients with large portfolios of patent properties could see systemic high-quality services with lower amortized costs across their entire patent prosecution dockets.

Sherman IP applied its systems to trademark prosecution with its AKeyMark® system and Control Legal® practice program to provide a prepaid, limited scope, flat fee trademark prosecution program directly to consumers, many of whom could not have previously afforded a specialized lawyer to help protect their brand. With these programs, Sherman IP became one of the largest trademark law firms in the country in terms of filing volume.

This affiliation with ZEK expands Sherman IP’s legal services both vertically with additional talent and horizontally from IP legal services to more generalized business legal services. Sherman IP will now offer ZEK’s business legal services to its clients who can still maintain the continuity of their known relationship with the Sherman IP team.

ZEK is a powerhouse in general business-related legal services. ZEK provides services in banking, business litigation and controversies, including intellectual property litigation, corporate finance and structuring, commercial transactions, employment law, insurance, banking, real estate, product liability, government regulatory and white-collar defense. Many of those services directly complement Sherman IP’s own boutique patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret and other intellectual property strengths. ZEK has its head offices in New York City, but also brings offices in Connecticut, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., and Tel Aviv, Israel.

Mr. Sherman stated, “In addition to ZEK’s litigation, employment, insurance, and transactional practices, what many Sherman IP clients will be interested in are ZEK’s corporate and M&A offerings. Many of Sherman IP’s clients need support structuring their entities, as well as expert advice and representation in mergers and acquisitions as they grow. Those legal skill sets are now available in coordination with the growth of Sherman IP’s clients’ intellectual property assets.”

Sherman IP and ZEK appreciate the support of their entire teams, including their attorneys, staff, vendors, clients, and others who support them in their continuing growth.
